Abnormal and Wide Load Transport
What is an abnormal load?
An abnormal load is a load where the width, length or weight of the load and the transporting vehicle combined exceeds the limits set out in the Road Traffic (Construction Equipment & Use of Vehicles) Regulations 2003, S.I. 5 of 2003. A permit must be obtained from An Garda Síochána if the load will be transported along designated routes. For all routes outside of these designated routes, a permit is required from each each local authority through which the load is to be transported.
GKT Ltd are the experts in transporting abnormal loads and wide loads and provide all services needed to transport abnormal loads. We will arrange all necessary permits and, if necessary, will liaise with the Gardaí. We have established a very strong working relationship with the Gardaí.
Our continued investment in crane equipped heavy haulage tractor units and specialized trailers have established GKT as leaders in the transport of wide loads and abnormal loads.
Our sister company, Gary Keville Traffic Management Ltd. are a dedicated traffic management company and will arrange route surveys, road closures, escort vehicles and everything necessary to ensure the safe and efficient transport of any abnormal or wide load.
Abnormal Loads – Loading and off-loading
When it comes to the loading and off-loading of abnormal loads our crane equipped trucks give GKT an advantage in this area. No load and no location is out of bounds. Even the most remote and inaccessible locations are no trouble for GKT. Our latest addition to our fleet is the 150 Ton/Mtr Knuckleboom Crane, mounted on crawler tracks. This machine can access any location and load or off-load huge loads with ease. Both the crane and the crawler are controlled remotely.
