Transporting CIE 6111 to Downpatrick RAILWAY MUSEUM
CIE 6111 is a driving trailer (the former railcar 2624). This class of carriage was decommissioned in the ’80s. However, Downpatrick Railway Museum bought it with a view to restoring it sometime. One heavy haulage truck was used to pull a 4 axle extended trailer. Two heavy haulage tractor units, each equipped with a Palfinger crane were used to tandem lift the carriage off the trailer an place on the track.
30 TON Brake Van / Lift & Transport Operation
GKT’s scope of work included travelling to a Railway Station at Limerick, Ireland, self-loading by tandem lift technique the 30 ton Brake Van to our trailer utilising two of our 150 ton/mtr Knuckleboom cranes. Once loaded and secured the 30 ton Brake Van was transported to Derby, UK. On arrival at Derby, the 30 ton Brake Van was offloaded and positioned inside the factory entrance door. This transport and lifting activity was executed in a 48 hour operation
Transporting a 113 Tonne Locomotive through Dublin
An Enterprise 201 Class locomotive (no. 233) suffered bearing failure at Connolly station. The bogie carriage unit was not available for it’s recovery which meant GKT were called in to transport the 113 tonne locomotive from Connolly Station to Inchicore for repairs. After detailed planning, liaising with Gardai and local authorities, the locomotive was transported carefully through Dublin.
16 TON Freight Wagon / Lift & Transport Operation
Heavy Haulage Tractor Unit, Equipped with 150 ton/mtr Crane& 3 Axle Extendable Flat Bed Trailer
GKT’s scope of work included travelling to a Railway Station at Limerick, Ireland, self loading the 16 ton Freight Wagon to our trailer utilising our 150 ton/mtr Knuckleboom crane. Once loaded and secured the 16 ton Freight Wagon was transported to Derby, UK. On arrival at Derby, the 16 ton Freight Wagon was offloaded and positioned inside the factory entrance door.
This transport and lifting activity was executed in a 48 hour operation

GKT’s scope of work included travelling to a Railway Station at Portlaoise, Ireland, self loading 3 x passenger railcars by tandem lift technique, transporting the 3 x railcars in convoy to Glasgow, Scotland. On arrival at Glasgow, the 3 x railcars were self offloaded from the trailers and positioned inside the factory entrance door
