TRANSPORT FOR
THE WINDFARM SECTOR
The scale of wind-turbine components combined with the remote and sometimes elevated location of the wind farms can prove to be a demanding logistical operation for some, but not for GKT.

TRANSPORTING WINDFARM EQUIPMENT
Wind energy is both Ireland’s largest and cheapest renewable electricity resource. In 2018 Wind provided 85% of Ireland’s renewable electricity and 30% of our total electricity demand. It is the second greatest source of electricity generation in Ireland after natural gas. Ireland is one of the leading countries in its use of wind energy and 3rd place worldwide in 2018, after Denmark and Uruguay.

TRANSPORTING EQUIPMENT TO A WINDFARM REQUIRES EXTRA PREPARATION
Transporting heavy or abnormal load requires a lot of detailed preparation, no matter what the industry is. For wind farm projects, there’s a need to plan in greater detail due to some of the extra logistical challenges that present themselves. Some of these challenges are in the form of restricted road access, steep gradients, confined road corridors, and strong winds on site. When you then take into account the abnormal shape and sizes of the cargo this adds to the difficulty.
